I had been running through the forest-------pursued.

My breath came in gasps as I stumbled and almost fell, desperately trying to escape the harsh
breathing that seemed to slowly grow nearer. The branches were crashing behind me by the enormity
and force of my pursuers. Suddenly, the path veered off to the right, and I found myself in a dense
grove of trees where I saw a small cabin. It was overgrown with vines to the point that I wondered if
someone purposed to have it hidden. Quickly I turned inside and hid, breathless, behind the door.
Trembling, I listened as the evil hoard thundered by. Peace slowly descended upon my soul as a deep
quiet comes after a violent storm.

I turned to survey my surroundings. The room was darkened in the cool shade of the trees, and in the
far corner was a dim light. The light gave off a soft glow, and the sweet scent of the oil
was very soothing to me.

On an old wooden table by the fireplace were dishes of delectable fruit, a glass flask and a drinking
vessel. I lowered myself into the soft, overstuffed chair beside the table and poured myself a drink
for I had run long and hard. The water was very cool and refreshing, bringing strength and
encouragement, and for a while I rested by the simmering fire, enjoying the rich sweetness of
the fruit provided in the dishes on the table.

As I ate and drank, I become aware of the gentle sound of running water. I turned towards the sound
and saw a door ajar at the back of the room. I rose from the chair, crossed the room and passed
through the arched opening, cautiously. The warm sunlight greeted me, and I found myself in a lovely
enclosed rock garden behind the house. A small waterfall filled the hollow of a large rock and formed a
pool. The sound of the water was so inviting that I could not resist putting my foot in to test the
water. Soon I found myself completely immersed in the deep waters. After a good swim, I felt clean,
refreshed and decided to go inside and rest.

As I stepped out of the pool I noticed a robe hanging on a rock close by. Had it been there before? I
took it, wrapped up in it, and re-entered the house. To my delight there was a much larger fire
crackling away in the hearth, and a hot steaming drink on the wooden table by the fireplace. The sun
was setting now, and the cooler night winds were gently blowing through the windows causing a chill. I
pulled the robe up snugly up under my chin and sat again in the soft chair by the fire. As I sipped from
the hot mug I smiled in wonderment at the blessings of this small cottage and mused about the
benefactor in wonderment.

I then noticed a desk to the left right beside me. Reaching over, I pulled down the front of the desk
and found inside a parchment journal. The journal proved empty and unused. As I picked it up and ran
my hands over the empty pages, I knew this journal was for me and committed myself to write my
story and the thoughts of my heart on the pages before I left. I knew I would revisit this wonderful
haven in the future and write more. Perhaps another traveler would venture here and find comfort in my
writings and drawings.

The night began to lull me to sleep. I became aware of another lamp on a smaller table across the
room. Under the window there was a divan with pillows and velour rugs. I finished my drink, stretched,
and rose slowly from the chair. As I walked across the room, a heady fragrance from the garden
drifted through the window. I lay down upon the divan and snuggled in the pillows beneath the rugs. I
was filled with thankfulness for the One who had led me to this lovely sanctuary and had hidden me
from my enemies.

Just as I dropped off to sleep, I was dimly aware of someone blowing out the lamp and a slight brush
of a wing against my cheek. Deep contentment and love were my companions.
